The orchard of Ashby Apples was
once part of a 40 acre orchard that had been
in existence for over 100 years. It has been a significant part
history of the town of Ashby. Many current and former residents
told us how
they used to make forays into the then commercial orchard and pick
"pillowcase" of apples. It was well known that this orchard
of the best apples in the region.
In 2000, the orchard was sold and parceled off for houses. The
residents; current owners, Greg and Elia Pierce, Paula and Phil
Shawn Zwicker, recognized the importance of saving their portion
orchard. The new owners invested considerable time and money in
and preserving the trees.
With the creation of Ashby Apples, it was the hope that the funds
from the "pick your own" would be enough to support the
maintenance of the
trees, as the current orchard is not large enough to be able to
on a commercial scale. The owners do not receive any personal profit
This year the trees have come back to full production. In fact,
branches are so weighted down with apples, that they are touching
ground! Please come to our grand opening September 11, at 9 AM and
preserve a landmark of Ashby. We depend upon your support!
